When the Wanderlust (german: desire to travel) hits, it is best to grab the opportunity by its horns, sit down and dream up all the potential adventures you could have.

The Lake District with its stunning natural beauty and outstanding wildlife is on many bucket lists. Outdoor adventures

Kite surfing, mountain hiking, wild swimming, trail runs – there is something for every outdoor enthusiast and thrill seeker.

Sign up for this year's KMF trail running weekend in Keswick, get the family involved with a  5k run or run the full 50k, if you are an experienced trail runner.

Soak up the whole festival atmosphere by visiting the event village and supporting activities in and around Keswick.

If you feel like trading the chlorine of your local pool for the refreshing feel of a swim in a natural lake, head down to Rayrigg Meadow Jetty for a quick dip.

Cultural Inspiration

An all-time favourite is - ‘the Beautiful world of Beatrix Potter’.

After all these years the story of the little rabbit still captures the hearts of old and young. The museum offers special events up until September. Why not join a tea party with Peter and his friends or just browse the wonderful shop for the latest Beatrix Potter memorabilia?

You don’t need to be the next Monet or Turner, but you can just grab a pencil and piece of paper and settle down in front of the many beautiful spots in Cumbria and start sketching.

The famous Castlerigg Stone Circle in Keswick or the Packhorse bridge in Wasdale Head are one of our favourite spots.

Watch red squirrels, majestic red deer, golden eagles, kites, buzzards, otters, and even the Northern Eurasian Lynx.

With some luck, binoculars, a good guide, or just equipped with your own map from the Wildlife Trust in Cumbria you can spot a number of incredible animals in the Lake District National Park.

Start your day early, get your walking boots on, and go outdoors – The Lake District is the perfect location to spot wildlife.

Wildlife

Roman remains, historic houses, stone circles, and industrial heritage – the Lake District is a place like no other to every history buff.

We love Muncaster Castle and its spooky story about ghostly visits and paranormal activity.

Visit the Ravenglass Roman Bath House , you won’t need a towel, but its 4 meters tall walls are still quite impressive after all the centuries.

Wander through the remains of Furness Abbey, an English Heritage site and make use of your membership. There are over 20 historic sites dotted around Cumbria and you can fill easily a long weekend at Windermere Manor by exploring them!
