Explore the Lake District

Windermere Manor makes the ideal base to escape your every day and explore The Lakes and surrounding areas

Tucked away in the north-western corner of England is the Lake District, an area of outstanding natural beauty that, without doubt, contains much of the country's most stunning landscapes. The title of "Lake District" doesn't really do this small region justice. Whilst the lakes are an integral feature, much of the Lakeland's charm lies in the dramatic fells (mountains), steep-sided majestic valleys and oak woodlands.

The landscape inspired painters, poets and writers in their work and there is so much to do and see in the Lake District that your days will easily be filled with happy exploring, daydreaming or just simple relaxing taking in the sounds and smells of the natural beauty. Stunning throughout the year, visitors to the Lakes are inspired by glorious sights such as the Spring bluebells, the wealth of activities for a Summer holiday and great family getaways.

Take a boat trip on Lake Windermere

Windermere, England's largest lake, is historically the most famous of all the Lakes and remains one of the most popular places to visit in the Lake District. Open all year around you can take scenic cruises, as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II did previously, and discover the beauty of the Lakes at your own pace.

Visit Windermere Village

Windermere village is a pretty little village located less than a mile from the hotel. Although, less visited than the neighbouring town of Bowness, Windermere offers a wide variety of interesting independent shops, cafes and bistros, with a number of them having al fresco dining options. Our favourite is the Little Ice Cream Shop on Crescent Road.

Visit Bowness-on-Windermere

Just two miles south of the hotel lies the town of Bowness-on-Windermere. Positioned on the banks of Lake Windermere, Bowness is the most popular visitor destination in the Lakes and a magnet for those who enjoy outdoor activities, so expect it to be busy.

Drive to Ambleside

Situated on the North banks of Lake Windermere, Ambleside is popular with outdoor enthusiasts and is just a short drive ( four miles) from Windermere Manor. As well as being the start and end point for many walks Ambleside is home to a variety of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants and even a cinema.
